sailorptah: "In Jon We Trust" (daily show)

Fandom: Fake news, Justice League
Characters/Pairing/Other Subject: Jon Stewart
Theme: Humor
Medium: Digital painting
Artist Website/Gallery: yurixmeister @ dA

Why this piece is awesome: There's a canonical Green Lantern by the name of John Stewart, which has led to more than a few works with the Daily Show host wearing the ring and the uniform. This is one of the most stylish, with really amazing coloring.

Why this piece is awesome: Fake news hosts as Batman villains, their themes perfectly chosen. This artist has an amazing touch with lines, and subtly beautiful detailed backgrounds.

Why this piece is awesome: A redesign of Wonder Woman's costume that draws from her ancient Greek roots, while still retaining a few familiar elements. I find this to be a much more interesting approach than the "pants" and jacket combo, frankly. Doyle's inks are gorgeous and flowing and her take on Diana is on the stern, majestic side; well worth a look.

Why this piece is awesome: This is like a music video in comic form, with a very effective limited palette and gorgeous, stylized integration of image/text. It's one of those comics that really makes use of what the medium can do, and it's also an interesting take on the characters (admittedly, I only have a superficial familiarity with Jason, but even so).

(Salume does gorgeous costume design and character pinup work as well; I recommend checking out the rest of her gallery.)

Why this piece is awesome: This is a very striking design, with just a few colors, and an interesting way to define the character's form. It just looks cool. The companion piece, Batgirl a la retro, is also worth checking out.

Why this piece is awesome: I like the sense of fun here. It shows three friends teasing each other, without settling on any particular slash pairing among them.

Why this piece is awesome: I really like the light and atmosphere in this. It has the looming Batman feel with him crouching by the gargoyles, but for once it is not night or rainy gloom, but he's backlit as if from a sunset, so there are striking, dark silhouettes without Gotham being its most depressing.

Why this piece is awesome: I like the mood and their mischievous expressions. And this piece also has a very nice, clean comic style, and makes both look hot yet not ridiculously exaggerated.

Why this piece is awesome: I like that this group portrait combines both the classic 1980s comic New Teen Titans and their new 2000s cartoon versions. The cartoon characters' style is adapted a bit towards the comic ones for cohesion, but they remain recognizable.

Why this piece is awesome: Costume (re-)designs are one of the staples of comic fanart, and I like this design of a 19th century Batgirl, because it is somewhat frilly with the ruffles and lace gloves but still looks practical enough to fight in. Also the expression with her confident smirk really fits the character. If you like this, you might want to check out the gallery of this artist, because she has a whole series of Batgirl and Batwoman designs (not just Babs, but also Cass, Steph, Helena, and Kate) with various Elseworld and original versions.

Why this piece is awesome: I like the atmosphere of this and how it is tender, yet they seem to almost clutching at each other which gives this urgency (though I suppose the clutching would also be understandable since the hug takes place while flying and only one of the pair can do that, heh).
