Why this piece is awesome: One last "minimal tits and ass" Wonderwoman artwork as it's still Feb 28th most places on the globe. This last one's an action shot, with Wonderwoman seeing to a bad guy with her lasso. I like the composition, the slightly muted colours, her calmness, and also her thighs are pretty impressive!

Why this piece is awesome: There's a truckload of Wonderwoman/Batman shipping out there, so here's one featuring them kissing. It's cute and hilarious as Batman's obviously thoroughly enjoying being tied up with the lasso and kissed on his masked nose. I much prefer pics where Wonderwoman's dominant and has various other superheroes at her mercy. *g*

Why this piece is awesome: Okay, so I'm deviating a little from the "minimal tits and ass" challenge I set myself here, but this is a really awesome pic of Wonderwoman. The art's very accomplished, and she's just so damn feisty and muscular. So yeah, the pose is pretty much pin-up central, but I love how tough she is, raring to take on the bad guys. Yum!

Why this piece is awesome: Sacha Goldberger's a pro photographer but even though this series isn't called fanart, I regard it as such, and it's out there in the public domain on the net. This is the one of Wonderwoman, part of a marvellous series of superheroes/fan heroes dressed in C16th clothing as though being painted by the Flemish masters. There's a certain amount of "stick a ruff on it" at times, but this one of Wonderwoman is lovely and I like how contemplative and serious she is. He got  many of the original actors to pose for him for the project (and since I recced her not long ago with Batman, check out the one of Catwoman and her cat!)

Why this piece is awesome: My apologies for being slow with the art this month - RL is being like the hammer of a hammering thing.
Anyway, this is a beautiful, dreamy portrait of Diana - and this one definitely benefits from enlarging to see the details. Love the lighting effects and impression of stars as well.

Why this piece is awesome: Okay, so the challenge this month is to recc art featuring Diana, aka Wonderwoman, with the main focus of the art NOT being on Diana's tits and ass. Yes, a disappointment in some ways and I'm not saying there'll be none of that at all, but far too many of the pics of Wonderwoman are frank Playboy centerfold material, or worse. This one isn't. It's Diana the warrior, after a battle, injured but unbeaten. Beautifully done, and the detail's fantastic - click it to enlarge.

Why this piece is awesome: I'm sneaking one final 'Batman sitting on a gargoyle' pic in as it's still December most places on the globe! I love the moody feel to this, with the rain, and Batman hunched there all drippy in the night - see how the artist's got the rain bouncing off his head and shoulders. Looks best enlarged, for the details. And that's it for now, with the Bathunk and his cronies.

Why this piece is awesome: There are loads and loads of pics of Batman crouched with gargoyles on a rooftop, often with bats - I'm going to finish by reccing two of them. This is an especially good one, with almost monochrome colorization and very strong design and perspective. It's deceptively simple, and really striking.

Why this piece is awesome: I'm an Antipodean so this is a good Batman pic for my hemisphere at the moment. Also, very cute and funny! Robin's all annoyingly cheerful in his costume-themed waterwings and Batman's grumpy because he can't be all dark and noir in the bright sunlight, so he's hiding under a beach umbrella. Hilarious! Why this piece is awesome: Because Steampunk - always a fave with me! But this is really great - Batman's huge and clunky with his steampunk leather and armour, and Robin's unusually troglodytic and heavy behind his goggles - you can only tell who he is by the colours he's wearing. Catwoman's in studded leather and more goggles, and the airship and Batman's bat-wings are wonderful. Enlarge it for all the excellent details.

Why this piece is awesome:
A subtly Chinese Robin and Batgirl painting, virtuoso technique and an awesome perspective of their mid-air acrobatics. Superheroes never have acrophobia, do they? Probably just as well. Robins by and large tend to be young and gracile or, in later incarnations, older and hunky. This Robin's somewhere in between. The colours are excellent, too - again, unusual for Batman art.

Why this piece is awesome: It's wonderfully lush and Catwoman's so sly and playful, queening it in her leopardskin chair. Very nice digital painting (enlarge for details and to see the technique) - her face is gorgeous and the colours are great, subtler than the usual striking blacks and whites of many Batman artworks.

Why this piece is awesome: I like process vids and love Jock's work, which I know from The Losers comics. He's a professional illustrator but this is a quick sketch that was used for charity, so I'm calling it fanart. I find it fascinating and incredibly impressive that he can create the likeness and typical Batman features so quickly and seemingly effortlessly, and I love his dark, noir style and the clever way the black and white pens are used for the detailing and buildings.

Why this piece is awesome: I like the quirkiness and simplicity - it's like a paper cutout picture and the antithesis of all the grimacing, fierce, rock-jawed, over-muscled Batmen out there. He actually is a giant bat in this, and Robin's gone feral, perched on the tree like an oversized bird. It's hilarious and a bit disturbing. Excellent stuff. Click to enlarge it a little.

Why this piece is awesome: A redesign of Wonder Woman's costume that draws from her ancient Greek roots, while still retaining a few familiar elements. I find this to be a much more interesting approach than the "pants" and jacket combo, frankly. Doyle's inks are gorgeous and flowing and her take on Diana is on the stern, majestic side; well worth a look.

Why this piece is awesome: This is like a music video in comic form, with a very effective limited palette and gorgeous, stylized integration of image/text. It's one of those comics that really makes use of what the medium can do, and it's also an interesting take on the characters (admittedly, I only have a superficial familiarity with Jason, but even so).

(Salume does gorgeous costume design and character pinup work as well; I recommend checking out the rest of her gallery.)
