Why this piece is awesome: This is such a fantastic portrait of Jadis. Very different from almost every depiction I've seen before, but very fitting both to her incarnation as the White Witch and as the Empress of Charn. Here she's both beautiful and scary and also looks very, very powerful.

Why this piece is awesome: I love nighttime lighting of this work. The dark landscape with the faint pinpricks of stars and the far-off glow from the Queen's castle. The way the light from the unseen source on the right illuminates Edmund's face.

Why this piece is awesome: This is probably my favourite portrait of Reepicheep. With the alert pose of his body and the turn of his head and way he's in the process of drawing his sword, I feel it has really captured the essence of his character.

Why this piece is awesome: I love the lighting and colouring in this work. It perfectly captures the strangely luminous blue twilight of a snowy afternoon. It's very beautiful but also a bit sad. Mr. Tumnus looks so lonely by the Lamp Post.

Why this piece is awesome: This work is both beautiful and gruesome. The scene the delicate pencil work with its flowing lines and lovely shading depicts is filled with nightmareish figures and the glee of the White Witch as she rises the knife to kill Aslan is palpable.

Why this piece is awesome: I love the dynamic composition of this work. The circular movement of the sea, going from the wave the ship is riding on, downwards and then up and up and up for the wave/Sea Serpent until it's on the verge of tipping over onto the ship. The way the waves surge outside the borders helps to heighten the dramatic tension and so does the colouring. The way the dark wave/Sea Serpent is hiding the sun and throwing it's dark shadow over the ship.

Why this piece is awesome: As usual I'm starting with yet another illustration of the Wood Between the Worlds. This time the focus is less on the wood and more on Digory and Polly and the effect the place is having on them. I think the artist has really managed to convey the mood of the scene. And I love the golden greeny colours, it makes the place look just as rich as Digory describes it.

Why this piece is awesome: This is such a strong and evocative work. I love the blocky simplicity and the almost lurid colouring. And the way the presence of Digory and Polly is revealed by their shadows in the light from the open doorway is so cool.

Medium: ? - maybe oil pastels?
Artist on DW/LJ: n/a
Artist Website/Gallery: [deviantart.com profile] jet097

Why this piece is awesome: This was one of the first works I found when I started looking for Narnia art. It made a big impression on me for two reasons. The first because I feel it captures both the mood and the setting of the scene perfectly. Their expressions and bodylanguage, the strong wind and the clear, high air. The second reason is much more mundane - I can't figure out what medium the artist's used. It doesn't look like either watercolours or markers or coloured pencils. It might be acrylics but it might also be oil pastels. Whatever it is, I love the depth and richness it gives to the colouring.

Why this piece is awesome: This is a beautiful work. I love the way the unusual composition makes you feel like you're part of the group, all of you looking at Aslan. And also how the stark lighting and the way it highlights the characters but leave most of landscape shadowed, emphasises how empty and unformed Narnia still is.

Why this piece is awesome: I love the fairytale feel of this work. The way it's both stylisied and naturalistic - the sweeping lines of the deer horns and of the sparkly flame from the goblet, the angles and planes of the Witch's face and headdress, contrasted with Edmund's freezing figure with snow sticking to his trousers.
