Why this piece is awesome: Starting off this month of Master and Commander recs with Stephen and Jack of course. This is by a caricature artist, and they're both very recognisable. I like the exaggeration of their features, with the way Stephen's forehead suggests his intellect, and the pugnacious look to Jack's nose and chin. The sketchy almost-monochrome background works well.

Why this piece is awesome: This is such a fascinating work. The intricacy and mix of figurative and non-figurative elements are somehow very fitting for a work depicting Varda filling Illuin and Ormal with light. And I love how intensely focused she looks.
