Why this piece is awesome: This is a very nice summary work intended as a bookmark. At the top we have Stephen and Jack looking handsome on deck, then at the base they're in full battle-mode (in Stephen's case, scalpel in hand), and at the lower right they're making music together. I really like the combination of imagery, the colours and design are great and the likenesses excellent.

Why this piece is awesome: An excellent idea that a few others have had as well, but this is (IMO) the best artwork for it. I like how amused they all are - wonder what they're talking about! It's just very cool indeed.

Why this piece is awesome: This is such a cool idea and really well realised. It's intended as a page from Maturin's diary, with his humorous drawings of the tortoise he named for Jack - just a little anthromorphised. Very cleverly done, and a great likeness as well. I can just see Jack spluttering with wounded dignity and Stephen laughing his pants off.

Why this piece is awesome: With some of these artworks the artists have used their imagination in depicting the characters from the books, like here - others use image references from the movie. So this is a non-Russell Crowe version of Jack. The linework and coloring are both gorgeous - really pays to enlarge it to see all the details. I also like how happy he is, with his fiddle and the music.

Why this piece is awesome: Starting off this month of Master and Commander recs with Stephen and Jack of course. This is by a caricature artist, and they're both very recognisable. I like the exaggeration of their features, with the way Stephen's forehead suggests his intellect, and the pugnacious look to Jack's nose and chin. The sketchy almost-monochrome background works well.
