Why this piece is awesome: Going out on a bang, with a beefcake pic of Jamie. This version of him is from the books and predates the TV series, so it's interesting to see a different take on what he might look like. Apparently, very hot, and the half-open kilt's pretty tantalising. Very clean lines in comic book style (the artists are in that field) and the inked version in particular is well worth enlarging.

Why this piece is awesome: This is a lovely soft drawing of a tender moment from the Wedding episode. Jamie's expression is especially well captured.

Why this piece is awesome: It's a striking and dramatic portrait of Randall being his nasty self, but I find it especially interesting that the artist used Jason Isaacs, the actor who played Lucius Malfoy, as a reference (this pre-dates the TV series). And yet the likeness works just as well for Tobias Menzies who played the part on TV. An interesting confluence of casting. Aryundomiel does lovely portraits, and another one on DA I especially like is one of "Young Ian Murray" - Jamie's nephew from a later book, so not from TV-verse. It's interesting looking at the art that predated the TV show, seeing how people envisioned the characters, especially Claire and Jamie. I'll cram a couple of those in before the end of the month.

Why this piece is awesome: The artist says she doesn't like this work as much as her other Outlander works and it's not on her DA gallery, but I like it a lot. It manages to be both touching and surreal, all at once. Also the watermark's not central so doesn't ruin appreciation of the art. Anyway, I like Claire's contemplative look despite being all bundled up by Jamie, and the edge of humor in his face. Plus his hands are great, and the anatomy and skintones, and the way her breast's squashed flat. Just, everything, really!

Why this piece is awesome: It's pretty amazing to get such a likeness from a very textured artwork like this, but especially if you squint a bit, you can really see Claire's face. I like it because it's unusual. I don't think it's a true mosaic, but a clever manip/collage with the same effect. There are lots of more conventional portraits on the artist's sites. (And I apologise for being such a sporadic reccer this month - RL's been difficult. Will do better in the remaining week.)

Why this piece is awesome: So, Outlander this month, and sorry I've been slow to start posting, but I'll catch up. This is a lovely portrait and an interesting digital technique - I especially love her hair and the weave of her wrap. There's unfortunately a bloody great watermark - less noticeable in the smaller version but it's still well worth enlarging it to see the details.
