Why this piece is awesome: I love that this Gerard has two faces, his regular college student face and his sexy, confident crossdresser face. :D I enjoy the details of "what's in Gerard bag", and the way that he kind of looks like a mess in both versions of himself. :D

Why this piece is awesome: I'm very fond of the way this feels very much like "person playing D&D accidentally ends up as their character", somehow. Good backgrounds always get a million bonus points from me, and this delivers - it really anchors the character in the world without totally overwhelming the picture and taking the focus away from Gerard. And there's something about the colour scheme that's just very pleasing to me!

Why this piece is awesome: I'm having a hard time thinking of specifics beyond "I just think it's neat". xD I find the dramatic costumes of their return video coupled with their really very undramatic current looks (especially Gerard's beard and drab everything xD) rather pleasing, and the composition is lovely to look at! Mikey almost looks like Bob which is interesting, and Frank's little smirk is delightful!

Why this piece is awesome: I just adore this artist's style so much! It's hilarious, even without the added hilarity of what the characters are saying. The characters are expressive, in over the top poses and dramatic facial expression, as befitting of these people, tbh. :D I also love how sketchy the style is, it makes it look so dynamic! And of course, as is often the case, I am all hearteyes over the use of colour! It's bright and neon and so cheerful and happy-making. I am honestly still laughing about the first picture especially. xD

Why this piece is awesome: sufroyo's doodles are all terrific, but this one has a particularly interesting style of hair highlights: drawn almost like quote marks, and in fun colors.

A trend in MCR art is to draw the same band member interacting with himself from various album "eras" since the band had a such a different visual aesthetic for each album. The collection of Gerards in this piece includes two from Revenge Era along with a very rare Bullets Era and post-band comics hobo phase.

Why this piece is awesome: This portrait of the band from their music video A Little Less Sixteen Candles poses the bandmembers in a way that creates a sense of movement and gives everyone personality, with Joe and Andy looking out for vampires and Patrick just staring up at Pete, who is sullenly floating in midair. I also like the minimal use of color--just red (marker?) added to pen & ink.

Why this piece is awesome: I don't actually know who Josh Dun is apart from the fact that he's obviously the drummer for Twenty One Pilots (he's holding drum sticks), but this piece of fanart is objectively awesome. The red and gray color scheme is beautiful and reflects the colors in the music video it references. It's a born-digital work, but the brush strokes are satisfyingly painterly. I also love the impressionistic smudge of what looks like red eyeshadow. But my favorite part might be the interesting vertical purple background texture.

Why this piece is awesome: The short version: because it plays with meta and canon and it's a tremendously striking piece.

The slightly longer version: Frank/New Jersey is an epic OTP. Also, this piece is a nod (of sorts) to the descriptions on the back of the packaging of the MCR dolls created during the Revenge era.

Plus the details are awesome: the gun halo (Revenge!era aesthetic + Frank's own tattoos), his Death Spells jacket, and his pin collection. This is Frank in the now and the future, but he still carries within him a bit of the past too

Why this piece is awesome: It's a creepy piece despite the lack of blood/gore/violence. This is a Frank who could be ascending to higher plane, becoming something else via some kind of supernatural possession, etc.

The ferocity of the brush strokes is heightened by the palette (which veers into cooler tones.)

Why this piece is awesome: LeATHERMOUTH, aside from being one of the gazillion bands Frank is involved in, is somewhat notorious for having a casual yet v. dark aesthetic. I mean, the promo photos are something else.

Zaki-mizer certainly tips a hat to Frank's look (white t-shirt and pants) while also managing to capture the vibrancy and aggression that makes up a LM experience. Although we don't see Frank's face, it's easy to figure out that he's giving it his all, even to the point of be covered with neon pink blood. It might look like a simple piece, but, the longer you study it, the more alive it seems.

tcustodisart is THE artist to check out if you're a fan of Mikeyway. Their site is filled to the brims with Mikeyway throughout the MCR eras and beyond.

Deer Eyes is a good example of how well this artist can depict Mikeyway's occasionally haunting yet always sharp gaze. Surrounded by darker hues, your eyes can't help but focus on this Mikeyway: a little awkward and a little friendly. If anything, the doodle style enhances the overall vibe.

Why this piece is awesome: for one thing, it follows the red and black aesthetic of the art I recced previously. What really caught my eye about it, though, was that, for a simple portrait of a relaxed-looking Frank, there are certain touchtones. Among those, his penchant for wearing hats and 8948416854 layers of clothing. I also dig the geometric touches that enhance, rather than distract, from the overall piece.

Why this piece is awesome: Because it's a sweet/tender moment of kissage between Frank and Gerard that could be set in any AU. I love the nod to Gerard's often quirky shirts as well as Frank's tendency for wearing pants that have ripped knees. #LOL

Also, the palette (lots of reds, black, and greys) falls within the Revenge era aesthetic. And yet, between the gentle lines and the adorability factor of the kiss, what's creepy ends up being quite charming.

Why this piece is awesome: Because, like the artist said, Ray Toro deffo deserves more fanart, LOL!

One of the things I like about this piece is how kinetic it feels. This is Ray at his happiest: mid-playing his guitar onstage. Another thing I think is cool is how the artist depicted a stage light right behind Ray. Perhaps the artist wanted us to enjoy Ray's curls. Finally, although the majority of the palette come from a darker hue, there is a palpable vibrancy to both the subject (Ray) and the overall mood.

Hi, y'all! I'll reccing Bandom fanart this month! Before I begin, a quick head's up that my recs will have a strong focus on Frank Iero. Not only is this his birthday month, but also there are a lot of really good stuff out there centered around him.

Why this piece is awesome: NGL, I had a difficult time when I had to choose one piece from this artist's gallery. The art is eye-popping on its own. In addition, if you're a fan of Frank's music, there's always some kind of Easter egg that adds a clever twist to already great fanart.

What made up my mind about reccing this specific piece was a combination of things: how it alludes to Frank and his 200000 bands; the starkness that reflects the kind of music DS puts out in the world; the small tech-y details (laptops, keyboards, the pixelation in the background) and kinda cold symmetry also completes the DS look.

It might be a black and white piece filled with lots of sharp lines with additional touches of otherworldliness and (for those who don't know/aren't into DS) a bit of confusion. And yet, for all its SRS BIZNESS, there is an ongoing connection between Frank and James (via the cable) that keeps them tethered to each other even as they float in space.
