Let's sneak one last rec in before the show finale tomorrow.

Fandom: The Magnus Archives
Other Subject: The Buried, as represented by a very strange coffin
Content Notes/Warnings: Coffins?
Medium: Ink
Artist on DW/LJ: n/a
Artist Website/Gallery: The artist's tumblr art tag
Why this piece is awesome: This stark illustration depicts an artifact of the fear of being buried, smothered or choked. The creepy coffin made its appearance in an early episode of the podcast, and the artist uses perspective to suggest the yawning hell in a scarily effective way.

Fandom: The Magnus Archives
Characters: Jon Sims (and assorted Beholding Eyeballs)
Content Notes/Warnings: Monstrous eyes.
Medium: Digital art
Artist on DW/LJ: n/a
Artist Website/Gallery: The Artist's TMA tag or you can take a look at Their main art tumblr
Why this piece is awesome: The artist here has played with the explicit dream logic of an episode scene (and its script description) to give us this gorgeous scene of a lonely Jon making his way across a surreal ocean.

Fandom: The Magnus Archives
Other Subject: A page from a Guest for Mr Spider
Content Notes/Warnings: Spiders, some blood
Medium: Embroidery
Artist on DW/LJ: n/a
Artist Website/Gallery: Kirikiril's Hoop Art tag on tumblr
Why this piece is awesome: A Guest For Mr Spider is another of those eldritch tomes, disguised as a very strange and dangerous children's book. The plain design of red and black on a white background represents the book as described very precisely. This is just one of a variety of imaginative designs carefully executed by the embroiderer.

Fandom: The Magnus Archives
Character: Gertrude Robinson
Content Notes/Warnings: Background stylised eye motif
Medium: Digital art?
Artist on DW/LJ: N/A
Artist Website/Gallery: Their art tag on Tumblr
Why this piece is awesome: The quote used by the artist on this post is one that Gertrude says in contemplation of her death, and the picture reflects that - the limited colour palette and the lines of Gertrude's face suggest a woman both determined and weary. Gertrude is one of my faves and this picture does her justice, I think.

Fandom: The Magnus Archives
Characters: Michael/The Distortion
Content Notes/Warnings: Mild body horror - elongated body and hands
Medium: Digital
Artist on DW/LJ: n/a
Artist Website/Gallery: [tumblr.com profile] jensen-couch-art or Jensen Couch at Artstation
Why this piece is awesome: In a universe of creepy things, Michael (or Fuckhands McMike as he's semi-affectionately known in the fandom) is one of the creepier. The artist's choice to make everything about him grey-toned except the blond hair, combined with the semi-realistic style, brings out the creepy in a good way, imo.

Fandom: The Magnus Archives
Other Subject: Illustrations of the in-universe book Ex Altiora
Content Notes/Warnings: N/A
Medium: I'm not sure if this is digital or pen on paper
Artist on DW/LJ: N/A
Artist Website/Gallery: The art tag of the artists's sideblog or [twitter.com profile] yemieiio
Why this piece is awesome: Magnus Archives is a horror story and a horror story can always use an eldritch tome. The stark lines in these landscapes evoke the bleak vastness at the heart of these imagined illustrations of Ex Altiora, a very eldritch tome indeed.

Fandom: The Magnus Archives
Characters: Simon Fairchild
Content Notes/Warnings: Non-graphic depictions of drowned/drowning people
Medium: Digital art?
Artist on DW/LJ: No
Artist Website/Gallery: https://bassacaglia.tumblr.com/tagged/my-art
Why this piece is awesome: Simon Fairchild is associated with vast heights and depths. He loves them; those who come into Simon's ambit not so much. In this picture, the artist plays with perspective and clear blue colours to show us a Simon cheerfully living his best life as he's sucked into a deep watery vortex.

Hi, I'm Mab and I'm here to rec The Magnus Archives. To quote the show's 'outro', The Magnus Archives is a podcast, and what a podcast it is, combining elements of cosmic horror, classic British short story influences, and a wider meta plot featuring a range of diverse characters. I love the characters and their interactions but I'm not in this fandom for the shipping per se, and my recs will cover a variety of subject matter. Any potentially disturbing matter (and there will be some because I enjoy the macabre) will of course be noted and warned for.

Fandom: The Magnus Archives
Subject: A set of designs for official Magnus Archive badges as imagined by the artist
Content Notes/Warnings: Nothing of concern
Medium: Not mentioned, possibly digital
Artist on DW/LJ: No
Artist Website/Gallery: https://kkmcshouty.tumblr.com/ The artist has a link to their art tag on their tumblr
Why this piece is awesome: The artist has borrowed elements of the official show logos to put together a set of designs for badges that might be worn by Archive staff. They're in traditional show colours of green and black, but also in gold and black to imagine as actual enamel badges. Good for phone and tablet backgrounds to show your TMA love too.
