Why this piece is awesome: The subject and the medium are well-matched. I loved the 8-bit avatars of the characters that appeared in an episode, and this captures them well.

Why this piece is awesome: I love movie poster design, and this is a good one--it cleverly riffs on an existing genre of movie posters (action thrillers) and also, on a specific film (but curses, I can't quite remember which one! just that it's very familiar.) Because the show so often takes inspiration from other works and comments on them, movie posters are a resonant theme for Community art--the episode that this poster refers to uses a lot of movie references. The details of this are really nice, from the crumpled looking background, to the echoing of the color of Annie's sweater in the type.

Why this piece is awesome: I love the Dean, and this piece nicely illustrates part of the reason why--he is flagrantly, obviously, unapologetically queer. And he likes to dress up in costumes. The light-hearted comic tone of the piece is perfect for him. The decorative background composed of the school's flag and motto (and yes, that is the actual flag and motto) and the file folders and pencils is a nice touch, because the other aspect of the Dean that is lovable, and important in the show's context, is that he tries very hard to do his job well, and he cares very deeply about his school and its students.

Why this piece is awesome: Troy and Abed's relationship is very central to the show, and the way they relate to one another often involves fantasy, storytelling, and play. One of the (many) things the show does well is suggest a rich and complex life for the two of them that extends beyond what we see in the episodes. This piece expresses those things beautifully, both in the way they are dressed in superhero costumes and in the visual design. The framing of the painting with the makeshift curtains of their bunk-bed alcove invites us to peek into the secret world of Troy and Abed. I love the way the strong light behind them casts them in shadow, and that we see them just before the moment that they kiss. The colors, with the predominant blues and violets, are dream-like and lovely.

The piece also parallels the show's frequent use of metacommentary--while Abed has actually dressed up as Batman in an episode, Troy-as-Spiderman suggests the Twitter campaign to have Donald Glover audition for the role as Peter Parker.
