Why this piece is awesome: Came across these two pieces a while ago and loved the easy intimacy in both of them and the way they seem to catch the characters in the middle of their life. The first one is very cosy and happy indeed, an abundance of warm colours and soft surfaces, and I love all the details in their position: Holmes' head in Watson's lap, the way they are looking at each other, Watson's hand in Holmes' hair... The second one is completely different in style: much less opulent with colours, the lines raw and direct. But once again, the intimacy is there in every detail, be it the suggested kiss that Watson is pressing to Holmes' shoulder, the almost possessive way he's lying on top of him, or their closed eyes.

Why this piece is awesome: And while I'm here, have one of my favourite retirement era Holmes/Watson pieces by the same artist. I adore Watson's mischievous and playful streak in this.

Why this piece is awesome: Fitting to wrap my ladies of Sherlock month with this since it inspired the theme in the first place. I love how much attitude they all have, the limited color pallet and the wall pattern. In addition, she does a great job finishing every out character.

Why this piece is awesome: I love the artist's delicate touch with color pencils here, using them almost like colored graphite and the perfect expression they captured on Mrs. Hudson's face along with their adorable Sherlock tag makes this a delight.

Why this piece is awesome: Another piece with amazing color and texture but really what empowers it is the intensity of her expression and the echoing silhouttes, reflecting the ambiguity of the character.

Why this piece is awesome:The artist has a wonderfully vibrant style that transforms simple black and white studies into dramatic pieces. It was hard choosing which drawing to rec and be sure and check out the Molly pieces, they're terrific. This won out though because she plays wonderfully with design, light and shadow and negative space here to create a piece that feels reflective of the character. It could easily be used as the promo piece for the Irene Adler story.

Why this piece is awesome: I'm concentrating on the women of the various Sherlock incarnations and I couldn't not start with this. It's just dreamy, gorgeous, ethereal with beautiful strong lines and stunning use of color and look, I don't even watch this show but I'd still hang this piece on my wall and stare at it every day.

Why this piece is awesome: Remember I said that in Cabin Pressure Martin's shorter and with reddish hair? So here's one of a number of crossovers that have been drawn or written, with BBC Sherlock. I like the style of this comic, and they both look exactly right to me and are very in character. Poor Martin, why won't anyone believe he's the captain?

Why this piece is awesome: An amazing work - Sherlock as Lolita, looking extraordinarily debauched from his bloodshot eyes to his smudged lipstick to the chest hair and nipple peeking out the lacy neckline of his little black dress. The opposite of innocence. Check out Marika's other artworks, they're equally good.

Artist Website/Gallery: nope, sorry - closed-off account on DA and there's only one other piece of fanart on the andbutts tumblr that's tagged as such. But there's one other very cute young femlock piece saved on Mira's tumblr here.
Why this piece is awesome: Such a hoot - they're teenage girl detectives painted in a very Nancy Drew manner, with John as Sherlock's tough "greaser" girlfriend. I really like the monochrone colour, like an old book illustration.

Why this piece is awesome: Not femlock this time, but a cross-dressed Sherlock. Taikova's painted a particularly muscular Sherlock here, which makes a great contrast with the lingere. Nicely fluid drawing style and a great likeness.

Why this piece is awesome: This month I'm doing Sherlock Holmes (any iterations) themed towards femlock and other gender-bending. This one's marvellous - They're women, set back in the ACD period. I love the muted palette and the London lamplight on their clothes and faces. (Also, in my head this is the femlock version of my SH OTP - Jeremy Brett and Jude Law, as in the icon).

Why this piece is awesome: Often the Elementary fanart jokes are really specific, like a small, extra present to go with the episode. This one is a hilarious reference to the time that Sherlock brought home two fighting cocks from a crime scene. Don't forget to look for Clyde the Turtle!
