Why this piece is awesome: Magneto is complicated character, but there is no doubt he is a powerful one. That shines through in both of these works, showing that neither his complexity nor his strength waned over the years.

Why this piece is awesome: I love how dynamic it is (the hair! The flying coffee - and the way it forms her codename! The chair and table flying away!) and all the little details (Wolverine and Jubilee apparently being very annoying on a call or text! The Black Panther keychain!)

It has been a pleasure sharing some X-fanart favorites with you all this month! I have a lot more where those came from, so maybe I'll reprise later. :) In the meantime, Make Mine Marvel ... well, you know, sometimes. (When it's good.)

Why this piece is awesome: Deeply, delightfully in character. Also, I love Warlock’s appropriately protean form and the way the (very simple) animation plays with it!

Why this piece is awesome: Kind of in the spirit of the Hawkeye Initiative, in that Logan is drawn in the kind of sexy pin-up pose more often reserved for female superheroes, but he retains his classic musculature, proportions and hairiness. The parody element is there, but it’s also believably the character in a way I find delightful.

Why this piece is awesome: The flawless combination of high fashion extravagance with representations of the characters’ powers and/or superhero uniforms is just beautifully executed in these pieces! A lot of artists were designing Hellfire Gala outfits for the characters (to go along with Russell Dauterman's official designs for the recent arc in the comics). I thought these four pieces were the best of the bunch.

Why this piece is awesome: This is just a lot of fun, and plays on my nostalgia for the era when I first got into the X-Men. I love the stylistic choices, like the ben-day dots and classic 90s patterns in the background, and the limited palette. The identifiable costumes on the stuffed cats (and the fact that Gambit’s holding a Rogue cat, and Jubes of course has a Wolvie cat), is a nice touch.

Why this piece is awesome: It’s a gorgeous piece in general--I love the texture of the traditional media, and the Phoenix effect is awesome--but it’s also a really cool blending of old school and recent designs for the character.

Characters/Pairing/Other Subject: Krakoa-era Summers family (Jean, Scott, Rachel, Nate, and Logan)
Content Notes/Warnings: None
Medium: Digital Art
Artist Website/Gallery: cykelops on tumblr
Why this piece is awesome: So many reasons! I mean, I generally love that the recent comics have tacitly made Jean/Scott/Logan canon, so I’m happy to see any fanwork reflecting that - and I love anything traditional-role-reversal-y with Logan especially, so Jean carrying him makes me really happy! Also I generally have all the Summers family feels. (And Rachel looks so butch!)

On a more technical note, love the simple, clear lines & coloring style, the bits of the characters that are visible underwater, and the donut innertube design. Good dynamic body language and expressions, too!

Down time/domestic X-Men art is always a delight.

(Note: this is a direct reference to a bonus image from a comic from the recent Krakoa era storyline, which shows these five on vacation on Chandilore, which is a Shi’ar planet. I think the caption on that image reads something like “Taking the kids on vacation.” Canon.)

Why this piece is awesome: So this is more than a little cheesecake-y? In case that's not your thing. But Emma is by definition kinda cheesecake-y, and I love how this piece is so casual about the skin while carrying Emma's typical body language of mild disdain. (If you are trying to place the style? Timm is most famous for his work on DCU animated series. Unless you're just familiar with his nudie pictures.)

Why this piece is awesome: I was considering reccing this companion piece since it contains the more famous X-Lady, but in the end I decided that I love the mood of this X-23 piece a little bit more. I'm loving the subdued expression and body language in both, but Laura's expression and pose are just so very her. She could have walked right out of the comic book.

Why this piece is awesome: Loobeeinthesky is one of my favorite artists in the fandom, with a unique and beautiful style. These are beautiful panels that really remind me of color-inserts in manga, incredibly detailed with great angles and composition. Done for the 2011 X-Men Big Bang (fic found here). Fair warning: I haven't read the fic itself yet, so I'm presuming the art contains spoilers for it but I don't know for certain. But this art sure makes me want to read it!

Why this piece is awesome: (Done for the 2011 X-Men Big Bang.) I don't see a lot of femslash art in X-Men, and even less art of Moira, which means finding this left me pleased as punch. Also, the poster style delights me for reasons I don't understand. Moira's expression in the last one is perfect.
