Why this piece is awesome: It's a mystery how Rico received his facial scar, unmentioned in the TV series and he is unscarred in the films. The artist draws a fantastic humanized rendition of the incident here and the linked tumblr portrays a vast array of work both humanized and in original penguin form. I especially like any monochrome pieces because black and white works so well with the original penguins.

Kowalski and Rico angsty scene

Fandom: Penguins of Madagascar

Content Notes/Warnings: Upshot is that Private sees his TV heroes, the idealistic Lunacorns, on stage in an ice show a la Muppets On Ice. His team is meh about the outing, but Private is dear to them all.

Why this piece is awesome: This piece derives from one of the best episodes, "Antics On Ice," where Private and friends go full Brony. This is one of the best quirks about the fandom, that a penguin, gorilla and rhino are Bronies and thus would like nothing better than a Brony, I mean Lunacorns On Ice outing. Another aspect is the expressions on each of his teammates' faces: Rico shrugs and joins in watching the kiddie show that offends Kowalski's intelligence (he wears a disguise to hide he's actually napping throughout). Private is ecstatic and Skipper feeds off that, which is good because it took tremendous effort to get into the venue. Skipper has the bruises to prove it.

Antics On Ice

Fandom: Penguins of Madagascar

Content Notes/Warnings: Dreamworks inserted a kiss scene into the 2014 feature film that astounded many fans of the 2008-2015 TV show. Crazy Tom takes the ball and runs with a humanized version of Private thanking Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico for his birthday gift. Rico thinks outside the box, as usual.

Why this piece is awesome: Crazy Tom's character designs humanizing the team members (and others of the franchise such as King Julien, Maurice and Gia as shown in the linked gallery) amaze me. Each sly, yearning, or smug expression on the faces tells the story of the piece and the backgrounds are intriguing as is the palette.

Why this piece is awesome: This issue in a nutshell relates that Rico is staying temporarily with Marlene, who wants to be a good hostess and allow him to share her bed platonically rather than sleep on the floor. I highly recommend reading each installment of the comic, but this issue alone shows mastery of color and character design to transform an otter and a penguin into human form.

Why this piece is awesome: Tora makes me smile with both humanized and penguin renditions of the team. This piece shows the grueling *for everybody except Skipper* results of a full on training week dedicated to "weeding out the weak" and who would want to face that? :)

Why this piece is awesome: drawbauchery astounds the fandom with prolific content while interacting with fans to create a fantastic AU. Various ships set sail from the AU, all fantastic. Yes, fantastic is the only word for an art blog for which fans contribute stories, colorize when the original was monochrome, and the artist draws art for the stories. A visit there always makes me happy. :)

Why this piece is awesome: MadJesters1 draws both penguin form and penguin-as-human form and it's such darn fun to see the artist interpret the features and characterization of bird figures as human - it's one of the best things about the fandom, to me. This cartoon depicts the *supposedly* most experienced, most leaderly of the team, Skipper, in a last ditch effort to save his species from doom. Read further to see how far he gets! :)
