Glaurung stirred for the last time by croclock [SFW]
Fandom: Tolkien (The Silmarillion)
Characters/Pairing/Other Subject: Túrin and Nienor at the moment Glaurung reveals they are siblings
Content Notes/Warnings: n/a
Medium: digital art
Artist on DW/LJ: n/a
Artist Website/Gallery: Tumblr, Deviantart
Why this piece is awesome: I had such a great time digging through my bookmarks, Tumblr, and Deviantart this month! I discovered so much mesmerizing artwork that I may have to sign up for another round of Tolkien reccing later this year. :D
But for the last piece of the month, to bookend my very first rec (a portrait of young Túrin and his mother), I've chosen an image from the end of Túrin's life. Here he lies unconscious in Nienor's arms, just as Glaurung tells her their true identities.
I love the scale of this composition: the dragon's massive head fills most of the frame, and one of his claws is half the size of an adult human. Yet at the same time, small details like the tenderness in the way Nienor is cradling Túrin's wounded hand and the horror in her eyes are clear to see.
If you like it, the same artist has done a close-up variation on this moment.
