Why this piece is awesome: This is a lovely depiction of the Valley in winter. So gentle and peaceful in mood. I love the aurora-like blue and blue-green colours, the white glimmer of the snow, and the dusty shimmer of the slowly falling snow over everything.

It's such a lovely work. Moomins are the best! Though I'd no idea it was such a popular fandom on DeviantART. Much as I dislike the modern incarnation of Moomin in cartoons and illustrations it seems at least to have made many more people aware of Tove Jansson's genius.

I had no idea that there's a modern incarnation! Just did a DuckDuckGo search, and wow, there was a 2014 movie and everything. I totally missed that. (I paused the trailer after about 20 seconds ... so much rather not hear them voiced, outside my head anyway. *g*) Good to know, even though I think I'll go on happily re-visiting Jansson's work and give the new stuff a pass. But it's great that people are discovering her who otherwise might not, and I love that there's fanart!

I haven't watched it at all, I really dislike the modern version of the characters, everything is so slick and streamlined. I so much prefer the original books and their illustrations.
