Why this piece is awesome: It's a striking and dramatic portrait of Randall being his nasty self, but I find it especially interesting that the artist used Jason Isaacs, the actor who played Lucius Malfoy, as a reference (this pre-dates the TV series). And yet the likeness works just as well for Tobias Menzies who played the part on TV. An interesting confluence of casting. Aryundomiel does lovely portraits, and another one on DA I especially like is one of "Young Ian Murray" - Jamie's nephew from a later book, so not from TV-verse. It's interesting looking at the art that predated the TV show, seeing how people envisioned the characters, especially Claire and Jamie. I'll cram a couple of those in before the end of the month.

Why this piece is awesome: I'm ending the month as I started it, with a picture of the Valley in winter. The mood of this one is quite different however. The colouring is much more subdued and sombre and together with the swaths of untouched snow it creates a feeling of stillness and loneliness.
